What is the difference between Adobe photoshop CS4 and photoshop lightroom?

I love digital photograph now I want to learn how to do different graphics and things with my photos. I have the student discount so I'm not worried about price so I just want to know the difference and the benefits of each program. What is the difference between Adobe photoshop CS4 and photoshop lightroom?
Lightroom is a simple (but expensive) image editing tool that will let you do simple corrections like exposure, levels, colour balance etc. It has many simple presets which you can apply to your photos. You can also do simple retouching jobs with it.

Photoshop is a complex image editing program used by professional photographers and graphic designers which will take you a long time to master, but it is well worth the trouble learning. However it may be overkill to do what you want to do.

Wow, a student with money to burn - you must have rich parents, even with a discount!

If you want to do something similar on the cheap, use some free programs instead, like google picasa (very similar to lightroom) or the GIMP (a very powerful open source image editor similar to photoshop). What is the difference between Adobe photoshop CS4 and photoshop lightroom?
To do justice to Lightroom would take a proper full review so this is incredibly potted, but here I go.

Adobe PhotoShop is a general purpose raster based image editor, and it's very, no make that extremely good at what it does. However for the professional photographer there are repeat processes that need doing over and over, sometimes for vast numbers of images. Lightroom will completely automate some of these tasks, and make others much easier than straight PhotoShop can.
