How do I make special characters in photoshop on a laptop?

On my desktop, if hit alt +0149 in photoshop it makes a bullet. This does not work on my laptop. I believe this is because I do not have a number keypad on my laptop keyboard. Is there a way to do this using the numbers at the top of the keypad? How do I make special characters in photoshop on a laptop?
Could open your Character Map in Windows and select different fonts which gives you different symbols. To open ';Character Map';, go to All Programs-Accesories-System Tools-Character Map. Not all systems may have ';Character Map'; installed and if it is missing use Windows Setup to install it. Also on some systems it is located directly in ';Accessories'; rather than ';Accessories-System Tools';.

Alt + 3 = 鈾? but you need to know more.To use the Alt codes you must have the Number Keypad on. On a PC, just press the NumLock key and light should come on and you can use the Alt codes.

For laptops, You have to use the Fn + Alt keys together and the number keypad is the numbers on certain dedicated letters keys. Check your Help for your laptop to show which key engages and locks the Fn (Number Pad) on or see: How to Use the Numeric Keypad on Your Laptop - http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/ho鈥?/a>

Some symbols may not show because your computer does not contain the font set and/or your browser is not set to the correct Character Encoding. Changing browser's encoding is usually done from its View Menu.

If it doesn't already work with the numbers at the top of the keyboard, then it probably won't. Unless there's some kind of setting that you have made on you desktop and not on your laptop for it to do this. I've never used photoshop so I don't know. But what I do know is that you can buy a usb number key pad for your laptop. It has the same exact buttons as a desktop keyboard's number key pad and you just plug in into a usb port on your laptop.
you have to activate the num pad on the laptop by clicking a button on laptops i have seen it is labeled as a fn in blue letters.
